2020 Outlook

Orlando City started their preseason campaign on January 25 with a closed-door friendly against the Stetson Hatters before travelling south of the border to face Mexican side Inter Playa. They then faced the Montreal Impact and Tampa Bay Rowdies, with matches against D.C. United, KR Reykjavik and San Antonio FC all ahead of the start of the new campaign.

The Lions begin their regular season with a home opener on February 29 against Real Salt Lake, before then travelling to Commerce City to face the Colorado Rapids on the road in their second clash of the season.

The club will face two three-game spells on the road over the summer. They first travel to the New England Revolution, Chicago Fire and New York City FC in June and July, before then facing road games against Floridian rivals Inter Miami CF, 2018 MLS Cup champions Atlanta United and the Philadelphia Union in August. The clash in Fort Lauderdale will be the return fixture in the first year of the Orlando City and Inter Miami rivalry, with the inaugural match-up coming earlier in the season on July 20.

Alongside the league campaign, Orlando City will also be in the U.S. Open Cup, where they will enter in the third round of the competition thanks to their finishing position in the 2020 Supporters’ Shield standings.

2020 looks like it will be another year of struggles for the South Florida side, and come to the end of the season, it will most likely be a sixth-straight year without postseason soccer.
