2. Sounders win big at MTRWestern Sports Star of the Year awards

We recently wrote about the Sounders having a couple of nominations for the prestigious MTRWestern Sports Star of the Year awards. Well, the 85th edition of the awards took place on Thursday night at the sold-out Westin Seattle and the Rave Green fan base had plenty of reason to celebrate.

As reported by Dan Raley of sportspressnw.com, the Sounders were named Sports Story of the Year after winning their second MLS Cup. The club also won the award for 2016, following their first MLS Cup success.

There was more reason for Sounders fans to cheer, with Raul Ruidiaz being named Male Sports Star of the Year after leading the club in scoring for a second consecutive season. His claim was arguably boosted by being the only one of the male sports stars nominated, to help his team reach the top in their particular sport.

The Sounders should be extremely proud, with these two awards helping solidify their standing in the Seattle sports scene. For proof of this, consider that they won two of the three awards which were voted for by the general public.
