FC Cincinnati have signed attacking midfielder Adrien Regattin. The winger further adds to their new-look attack that has been exceptionally revamped this offseason.

Adrien Regattin is the latest acquisition to be made by a busy FC Cincinnati front office. The club already confirmed the signing of Jurgen Locadia at the start of the week before then announcing Regattin as the next addition on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old is an experienced player who can play on either flank and will add more depth to the increasingly talented attack that Cincinnati is developing.

In a statement upon the announcement, FC Cincinnati General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said:

"“We are happy to add a versatile attack-minded player in Adrien to our current group. We look forward to getting him acclimated with the club and city ahead of our second MLS season.”"

This will be the first time Regattin has ventured out of European football in his career. He began his playing days with Toulouse in France where he made 163 appearances and scored 11 goals with 19 assists. Of the 163 appearances, 144 were made in France’s top division, Ligue 1.

From Toulouse, he made the move to Turkey to join Osmanlisporr FK and then to Akhisarspor, before finally making the jump Stateside. Adding an experience European attacker without having to take up a DP slot is a smart piece of business.

Regattin has played different positions throughout the midfield. He can play as a winger or as the main attacking midfielder. This should be a good acquisition, then. Cincinnati need depth at both of those positions and while Regattin will not necessarily be a starter from day one, having variety and depth in the attacking positions is important.

Signings such as Regattin — as well as DP striking acquisitions Jurgen Locadia and Yuya Kubo — this offseason have really illustrated FC Cincinnati’s willingness to build a winning team. After a disastrous 2019 in which they were roundly embarrassed, in large part because they were unprepared for the season ahead after a curious first offseason that saw them waste their DP slots and amass average attacking talent and thousands of defensive midfielders, Nijkamp and co. have looked to right the ship and assemble a genuinely competitive side.

They have not stayed complacent or avoided going after top players during the winter window. It was the exact response they needed, and there is no question that the Cincinnati front office has turned some heads with their signings.

If Regattin and the other new players can produce, Cincinnati should at the very least improve from their last-place finish in 2019. Times are changing and it is encouraging to see them putting together a competitive roster for 2020.
