The Vegas odds are out and, predictably, there is value to be made on some underrated teams. And perhaps none are as slighted as Sporting KC.

With MLS kicking off their regular season in less than four weeks, a couple of betting sites have put out the odds of all 26 teams that will be competing for the MLS Cup in the league’s 25th season.

While some odds are accurate, like Los Angeles FC entering the season as the favorite to win it all, others are way off the mark, either vastly underrating or overrating the team’s chances to win MLS Cup.

Sporting Kansas City might be playing with another chip on their shoulder after learning that two famous sports betting sites have Peter Vermes’ side as a heavy underdog to win MLS Cup in 2020.

Sports Betting Dime has Sporting KC as the fourth unlikeliest team to win MLS Cup in 2020. On top of that, Bovada has put Sporting above just Nashville SC with the worst odds to win MLS Cup this season.

Both sites have given SKC +8,000 odds to win MLS Cup along with Colorado and Orlando, while Bovada gave Cincinnati +8,000 odds despite SBD giving Cincinnati +10,000 odds. Bovada gave the Columbus Crew +4,000 odds while SBD gave them the same odds as Sporting at +8,000.

A more reputable betting organization, DraftKings, did give Sporting KC a more accurate representation, as they were given +3,300 along with D.C. United, which ranks 10th and 11th in MLS. Even this can be seen a bit underwhelming, but it does seem to be a very unpredictable season for SKC. This means that a $10 bet for Sporting to win MLS Cup would reward you with $340 from DraftKings.

It really doesn’t take much to realize how badly off these odds are. It is not exactly clear how they came up with these numbers, but after picking up Bundesliga experienced center-back (Roberto Puncec) and making the second-biggest signing of the offseason in MLS (Alan Pulido), it is safe to say that Sporting KC have what it needs to be a contender for a top spot in the Western Conference and MLS Cup, as they were in 2018.

Other strange odds include a very unbalanced LA Galaxy side with +600 odds to win MLS Cup as Chicharito looks to fill the giant boots of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Joining the Galaxy with +600 odds are New York City FC, Atlanta United, and the Seattle Sounders, three teams that are far more complete than the superstar-driven Galaxy. Toronto FC enters 2020 with the second-highest odds according to SBD at +500, which also seems a little kind given that Michael Bradley will miss the first few months of the season and they are yet to fill the third DP slot.

So, if you happen to be in Vegas or know-how online betting works, placing a bet on Sporting KC to win MLS Cup might just be worth it. They are not the favorites, admittedly, but these odds are far from accurate.
