There has been a little bit of everything recently for the Seattle Sounders, including signings, loan deals, a new jersey and more. Here are our five takeaways from the week that was.
It might still only be the preseason, but it’s been another extremely eventful week for the Seattle Sounders. The club completed their Southern California portion of training camp, while Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan joined them in practice after they returned to Seattle following the USMNT January camp.
In addition, as per Mark Kastner of Sounder At Heart, the Sounders’ new home jersey has been leaked, a big new signing has been linked, while the team earned their first victory of 2020 as preparations heat up for the looming season ahead.
Let’s break down the events of the last seven days, with our five takeaways from the third week of preseason.
5. Change is key to success
The Seattle Sounders were deservedly named the MLS team of the decade, but what has helped them remain so consistent and successful during the past 10 years? One of the key elements is their never-ending search for ways to improve and adapt.
This mindset was discussed during last week by Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer. As reported by the Sounders’ in-house media team, Schmetzer said:
"“We’ve got some pretty intricate ideas and principles…it’ll take time to catch up for some of the new guys, but the guys who were here last year have heard what we want – our game model and all of that. So we always try and make tweaks; try and always make it a little better and it’s really important after the success we had last year not to be complacent.”"
This approach brings to mind the saying, ‘the more things change, the more they stay the same.’ While you can never take anything for granted in the world of professional football, Sounders fans can be reassured their club will never stop looking for new ways to sustain their success.
