1. Harry Shipp officially re-signs with the Sounders
There had been some speculation for a while, that Harry Shipp was going to re-sign with the Seattle Sounders. It finally became official on Wednesday when the club announced his signature.
Shipp has spent three years in Seattle, and last season was his most productive yet with the club. He finished with five MLS goals — his most since his rookie season — and three assists, while appearing in 25 games (including 15 starts).
The 28-year-old is the type of player who the Sounders need, with his combination of consistency, leadership and experience. He is also coming at a bargain, if his 2019 salary of just under $235,000 is any indication.
Some people may point towards Shipp’s diminishing involvement towards the end of last year. However, this doesn’t take away from how important he will be to the roster as the Sounders aim to compete for the top honors. As is ever the case, depth is critical, and Shipp provides it.
