Portland Timbers Vs Seattle Sounders

Providence Park; Sunday, May 17th; 2:00 PM

The defending MLS Cup champions come to Providence Park early in the season. Not only did the Seattle Sounders conquer MLS last year, they will also be looking to defend the coveted Cascadia Cup, a trophy given the regular-season victor of games between Seattle, Portland and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The silverware has made it’s way to three different teams in the last four years. But after two successive Cascadia Cup wins in 2018 and 2019, Seattle now has four victories in total, coming since 2011 when all three teams joined the league. Portland, meanwhile, lags behind on only two, while Vancouver has three.

May 17th is the Timbers’ first shot at deseating the Sounders after falling on August 23rd last summer and failing to get past Real Salt Lake in the first round of the playoffs to set themselves up for a rematch in October. They will be looking for revenge.
