Sporting KC: Top 10 Players of the Decade
By Nathan Dunn
7. Dom Dwyer
Picked by Sporting KC 16th overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Dom Dwyer made a real name for himself late in the 2013 season, when he took the reins of Claudio Bieler, who was enduring a long drought without a goal. Dwyer’s greatest moment was scoring the goal that put Sporting 2-1 up on the Houston Dynamo and into the MLS Cup final.
The English-born Dwyer ranks second on SKC’s all-time scoring record with 57 goals from 128 appearances. He also ranks third in shots on goal with 161, fourth-most total shots with 401, fifth-most fouls committed with 239, and seventh-most fouls suffered with 273.
The American international was caught offsides 108 times, which is third-most in club history, and is also tied with Preki for most game-winning goals at 13. Dwyer scored 0.51 goals per 90 minutes and 10 multi-goal games, both of which are team-leading figures. He was Sporting KC’s best goalscorer of the decade. You cannot ask for much more than that.
