3. KC Wizards rebrand

After nearly being relocated, the club’s new owners had other ideas. They decided to rebrand. Everyone knew of a new, soccer-specific stadium, but nobody knew of a full rebrand until a rally on November 17th, 2010.

The rebrand, which changed the club’s crest and name from the ‘Kansas City Wizards’ to ‘Sporting Kansas City’ was not met well by many throughout the city, especially the media. It was largely seen as a step backwards for a team on the verge of relocation.

But four trophies later, Robb Heineman and company have proven to do what many thought was impossible and make Kansas City a hotbed of success for American soccer. Most of the other memories in the past decade don’t happen without a rebrand.
