MLS: How Edinson Cavani impacts Luis Suarez Inter Miami move
By Daniel Garza
Luis Suarez’s arrival in Major League Soccer may happen sooner rather than later as the Uruguayan star continues to be linked with a move to MLS.
Yet another report has linked Barcelona striker Luis Suarez to a possible move to Major League Soccer.
The Uruguayan goalscorer seems keen on joining a club in the league when his time with Barcelona comes to a close. Throughout 2019, Suarez has been linked with a possible move to Inter Miami as David Beckham looks to bolster the first year club’s squad.
This time around, it is Suarez himself driving the rumors, speaking extremely positively about a potential MLS move as he reaches the latter years of his career:
"“MLS is a competition which has grown a lot in the last few years and you can see that with the young players that have moved there in the last two years, above all the South Americans <…> In the future, you never know, it’s an attractive league. Given that I have been lucky to have had success at the top level for a long time, what I would look out for [next] is stability for my family and the well-being of my children. They would all make the decision along with me and the United States is a nice possibility.”"
Suarez is under contract with Barcelona until 2021 but his time with the Spanish giants may end before then. It appears the club is considering moves for young strikers, Lautaro Martinez and Erling Braut Haaland, who would inherit the center-forward mantle at the Nou Camp from Suarez.

Inter Miami would be a good fit for Suarez, who appears to be encouraged to see his fellow countrymen playing at a high level in the league already, most notably his friend, Nicolas Lodeiro. Miami would give Suarez plenty of minutes and he has the capability of becoming a lethal striker in MLS.
Another reason Miami may be looking to sign Suarez in the coming months is the developments surrounding Edinson Cavani’s possible move to the Los Angeles Galaxy. Cavani appeared to be a done deal to Miami but it now appears the Paris Saint-Germain striker has his eyes on California.
If Cavani does indeed end up in LA, Miami would be without a star striker, the type of signing they have promised prior to starting play in MLS. This is why they would hope to bring in Suarez sooner than later in order to give their roster a boost in their inaugural season. They will need all the help they can get in their first season and Suarez can certainly aid in their efforts to make an impression. He would also be quite the commercial signing, too.
Nothing is set in stone at the moment as Suarez has neither confirmed or denied a move to MLS. But his comments suggest something is in the pipeline, and it might come to fruition sooner, rather than later.
