The 38-year-old was, once again, well up to the task of facing LAFC on Thursday night, assisting Cristian Pavon for the Galaxy’s first, pouncing on some slapstick defending to score their second, making a match-high four key passes and winning a ridiculous eight aerial duels, five more than any other player on the pitch.
Ultimately, he was completely let down by his teammates. Pavon was once again a huge threat, but other than him, nobody got close enough to Ibrahimovic, and those who did were incredibly wasteful, fluffing chances and failing to match the standards set by their illustrious teammate.
The next few days might well be punctuated by questions of Ibrahimovic’s MLS legacy and accusations of his failure. His arrogance has brought that upon himself, but the results speak for themselves. Ibrahimovic has scored 53 goals and assisted another 15 in just 58 appearances since moving to MLS. Nobody can question how much he’s given to the Galaxy. He has simply been sold short by his teammates in the biggest moments.
