2. Darwin Quintero

If you’d have said a year ago that the club was considering not bringing Darwin Quintero back in 2020, you probably would have been called insane. However, it appears that Minnesota’s first Designated Player signing may be out the door after just two seasons.

Though Quintero still tallied 10 goals this season, four of them were from the penalty spot, and the magic he displayed throughout most of 2018 only showed up in rare flashes this season. At 32, there’s a chance that his best days are behind him. Perhaps his $1.7 million salary and DP tag could be better spent elsewhere on a younger player.

This is a difficult decision that Minnesota’s front office will have to make. Quintero has a club option in 2020 worth $1.7 million. The onus is on Minnesota to keep Quintero. His magical 2018 season will live long in the memories of Minnesota fans, but if that form is now long gone, the time to move on might have come.
