With Minnesota United’s season over, it is time to look ahead to next season. Here are five players who could be moving on from Minnesota in the offseason.

In the end, the 2019 season ended in heartbreak for Minnesota United. Despite making the playoffs for the first time in their MLS history, the Loons fell to Los Angeles Galaxy in agonising fashion, missing a series of gilt-edged opportunities on the way to a 2-1 defeat.

The focus now shifts to the 2020 season. And with it, the preparations that must be made in the upcoming offseason now loom. To start with, Adrian Heath and the Minnesota front office must consider which players are to leave the club.

5. Miguel Ibarra

The writing has been on the wall for Miguel Ibarra and his Minnesota United for some time. And barring a sudden change of heart from the front office, the man who became a legend during Minnesota’s NASL days has likely played his last season in a Loons shirt.

Ibarra has underperformed this season, make no mistake about. He has scored just one goal and one assist in 1500 minutes of play, while making a relatively high salary for a bench player at $309k.

With that in mind, Minnesota’s front office will likely be looking to find a more productive player for Ibarra’s salary. Having not appeared in a match for the Loons since August 17th, it’s clear that Adrian Heath and staff rate other players ahead of him, so it could be best for both parties if Ibarra moved on.
