The 2016 MLS Cup Champions are ready for another run at the title. The Seattle Sounders come into this year’s postseason as the number two seed following a strong second half to their campaign. They took the second seed on the final day of the season thanks to defeating Minnesota United in a crunch clash on Decision Day, leapfrogging the Loons in the process.

They will be looking to improve their record of playoff appearances, having only reached the final twice in their ten previous visits. This is their 11th consecutive appearance in the postseason, breaking the record set by the Galaxy (10, 1996-2005).

Seattle are currently just one of three teams to have reached the playoffs in every season they have been in MLS, along with Atlanta and Los Angeles FC, but they only have three and two seasons, respectively, compared to the Sounders’ 11.

That victory on the final day of the regular season means that Seattle will host the lowest-ranked side in the West, FC Dallas, at CenturyLink Field on Saturday afternoon. A victory for the Sounders would see them then face either Real Salt Lake or the Portland Timbers in the Conference semi-finals, before an expected tie with LAFC in the Conference Finals in LA at the end of the month.

Could Seattle make it two MLS Cup titles in four seasons?
