Atlanta United came into Decision Day knowing that a win would guarantee them second spot in the East and home-field advantage through at least the first two round of the post-season. They did exactly that, beating the New England Revolution 3-1, with midfielder Julian Gressel playing a hand in all three goals for the hosts.

The German got things going in just the third minute as his pullback from the byline set up Darlington Nagbe for the game’s opening goal. He then got his second assist shortly after the break, setting up 2018 MLS MVP Josef Martinez who was never going to miss.

Gressel then capped off his impressive performance with a wonderful strike into the bottom corner of the Revs goal, with the ball flying in off the post, making it 3-1 to Atlanta.

With the win, the Five Stripes secured second place and have set up a second clash with the Revs in as many weeks in the first round of the playoffs. Gressel has posted career numbers during the 2019 campaign with six goals and 12 assists. And Atlanta will now be hoping he can push into the postseason with the same form.
