5. Christian Ramirez

Coming into the final weekend of the 2019 MLS campaign, the Houston Dynamo knew they were already eliminated from playoff contention. Nevertheless, they showed they could still win against the big teams on Sunday, as they defeated LA Galaxy 4-2 to end their season on a high.

The first of two Houston players on our list this week is Christian Ramirez, ‘Superman’ scoring twice for the Dynamo in their victory on Sunday. After LA took the early lead, the USMNT forward brought the sides level in first-half stoppage time, with this poacher’s finish after Alberth Elis had hit the upright.

Elis then equalised for Houston again, following a second Galaxy goal after the break, before Ramirez then bagged what would be the winner to give Houston a 3-2 lead. Those two goals from Ramirez, the former Minnesota and LAFC player, pushed the Galaxy down into 5th, meaning they now have to travel to the Loons in the first round of the playoffs.

He scored five times and assisting another goal in his ten games for Houston in 2019, following his trade from LAFC midway through the campaign. The Dynamo will be looking for more of that next season.
