The Montreal Impact came into the weekend having already fallen out of contention to reach the MLS Cup playoffs. Nevertheless, they put a dampener on the New York Red Bulls’ attempts to secure a home tie in the first round with a 3-0 victory over the visitors. And it was forward Orji Okwonkwo was the main man for the Impact once again as he got a goal and an assist in the comfortable victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Nigerian forward may have been playing his last game for the club, with his loan deal from Bologna set to end now the season has finished, but he finished his time in Montreal with a flourish.

He started off by setting up former Barcelona winger Bojan Krkic to open the scoring, driving to the goalline and pulling a low cross that Bojan converted. Montreal then doubled their lead later in the first half through a Maximiliano Urrruti strike, before Okwonkwo then got on the scoresheet himself. The forward unconventionally managed to bundle the ball home from a cross from the right wing, before applying his trademark backflip to the celebrations.
