1. Carlos Vela

What a surprise… He has been the best player all season and he came out with the best performance on Decision Day. Of course, it is Carlos Vela!

The Mexican winger is a shoo-in for MLS MVP, and on the final day of the season, he became the single-season goalscoring record holder as he bagged a hat-trick to take him past Josef Martinez’s 31 from last year. Vela went on to finish the campaign with 34 goals, along with 15 assists, from just 31 games, making it the best individual season in MLS history.

He broke the scoring record with his first goal of the game, and it was a Vela special, as he got the ball in space outside the box, and fired a curling effort into the top corner. The Mexican then scored an overhead kick from the six-yard line just three minutes to double his tally on the day. He finally notched his 34th on the year in the second half to kill the game off, and to break the single-season points record for the team, who finished with 72 points from their 34 games.
