USMNT abroad: Christian Pulisic registers much-needed assist
By Daniel Garza
Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic registered a crucial assist against Southampton on Sunday. Here is how he and the rest of the USMNT players fared across the world this weekend.
U.S. Men’s National Team superstar Christian Pulisic got his opportunity with Chelsea on Sunday as the midfielder picked up an assist against Southampton.
Although he was not in the starting XI, Pulisic was still able to make an appearance in Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Southampton. The American midfielder made the most of his time on the pitch as he picked up an assist for Michy Batshuayi’s 89th-minute goal.
Receiving the ball with his back to the goal and a defender pressuring his first touch, Pulisic first held off the challenge, protected the ball, and then slid a lovely through pass for Batshuayi to bound onto and slam home at the near post.
This is the second assist of the Premier League season for Pulisic who has not been a regular in Chelsea’s lineup as of late. He was left off the 18-man matchday squad for the midweek Champions League fixture against Lille.
Hopefully, his assist and brief time on the pitch will at least keep him in consideration for the upcoming matches for Frank Lampard’s side. With the international break upon us for the upcoming week, the time with the USMNT will be another avenue for Pulisic to get minutes in.
