4. Timbers and FC Dallas in, Quakes and Rapids out

The Colorado Rapids’ defeat to LAFC killed their admittedly slim hopes of making the MLS playoffs. But they weren’t the only ones left disappointed on Sunday.

After an incredible mid-season turnaround, the San Jose Earthquakes slumped in the final sprint and deservedly lost their Decision Day shootout with the Portland Timbers 3-1 at Providence Park, ending their 2019 season with six consecutive defeats.

Meanwhile, FC Dallas put a timely end to a four-game winless run, crushing a sorry Sporting Kansas City 6-0 at Toyota Stadium, firing Luchi Gonzalez’s young side into the postseason. The likes of Paxton Pomykal and Jesus Ferreira are extremely talented and dangerous on their day and anyone who underestimates FC Dallas in the play-offs will do so at their own peril. Credit to Gonzalez for playing the kids.
