USMNT defender DeAndre Yedlin was back in the lineup for Newcastle United after a lengthy absence due to injury. Here is the USMNT abroad update from this weekend’s action.

DeAndre Yedlin had been sidelined due to injury at the start of the Premier Leauge season for Newcastle United. The U.S. Men’s National Team defender has not featured at all in the English top-flight until Sunday when he entered as a substitute in the second half of a 5-0 loss to Leicester City. Despite the big loss to Leicester City, it was a glimmer of hope for Newcastle, who will hope Yedlin can return to form and resume his usual starting role.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Christian Pulisic did not feature in Chelsea’s fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. The 21-year-old midfielder played midweek in a Carabao Cup match against Grimsby Town. Pulisic provided an assist in the 7-1 rout of the lower league side.

In Germany, Josh Sargent helped aid Werder Bremen’s 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund. The striker picked up an assist in what was a big result for his club. Zack Steffen, meanwhile, stopped a penalty shot for Fortuna Düsseldorf in another fine performance. However, the final result went Freiburg’s way as it finished 2-1.

Another USMNT player to have a direct hand in a goal was Duane Holmes, who registered an assist for Derby County during a 3-2 win over Birmingham City in the EFL Championship. Christian Cappis also had an assist for Hobro in a 2-1 loss in the Danish top flight. His fellow USMNT teammate Emmanuel Sabbi played all 90 minutes as well.
