There were six games on the midweek slate in MLS on Wednesday, with titles and playoff places being clinched as a result of the action. Here are the top five performances.

It was a big night for Los Angeles FC, who won their first major trophy, as they clinched the Supporters’ Shield in only their second season in Major League Soccer. They did so thanks to a 3-1 victory over Houston on Wednesday night, with goals from three of their main men as they lifted the trophy in front of their home fans at the Banc of California Stadium.

Elsewhere, New York City FC put themselves just a point away from clinching the Eastern Conference title with a convincing victory over Atlanta United. They would have become Eastern champions had Philadelphia lost, but the Union came from behind to overcome the San Jose Earthquakes.

Minnesota United clinched a first-ever playoff spot in their MLS history. They also came from a goal down to beat Sporting Kansas City thanks to two late, late goals at Allianz Field. LA Galaxy also won away from home, beating Real Salt Lake 2-1, while a 97th minute goal for the New England Revolution earned them a draw against the Portland Timbers.

5. Jeremy Ebobisse

First on our list for this midweek slate is a man who scored twice for the Portland Timbers on Wednesday evening as they fell just short of taking victory over the Revolution. Two goals from Jeremy Ebobisse put the Timbers into a healthy position, even if the Revs were able to come back in the latter stages of the match to take a draw out of it.

After a goalless first period, the former number four Superdraft pick popped up at the back post to head home from Jorge Villafana’s cross to give the Timbers the lead just a couple of minutes after the interval. Ebobisse then scored a second to give the Timbers what looked like a certain victory with nine minutes of regulation time left. However, the Revolution were able to bounce back to score in the 87th minute through Gustavo Bou, before Carles Gil gave the visitors a point with a 97th-minute penalty kick.

Ebobisse now has double figures on the season after he scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season on Wednesday night. If the American forward can maintain his goalscoring form, then the Timbers could make a deep run into the playoffs.
