3. Tommy Smith

Coming in at number three on the list for top five MLS performances from Week 29 is a man that did a little bit of everything, including scoring in the wrong net this week.

More from MLS Multiplex

English defender Tommy Smith helped Sporting Kansas City into a two-goal lead inside the opening 15 minutes of their clash with the Colorado Rapids. The home side took the lead through Gerso just three minutes into the match before Smith’s own goal put them two goals to the good. However, thanks to Kei Kamara’s spectacular overhead kick, the visiting Rapids were one back at the half time break. And then Smith started his attacking onslaught on the Sporting KC.

First, he set up Diego Rubio’s equalising strike to make it 2-2, before rising highest to meet a Jack Price corner to head home, giving Colorado the 3-2 victory and just about keeping them in the playoff race.

It may seem odd to name a player with an own goal in the top five MLS performances of the week, but Smith showed great resilience and quality to haul his side back into the match and ultimately hand them the victory.
