3. Darwin Quintero

You need your biggest players to step up in the biggest moments. And for Minnesota United, that is precisely what Darwin Quintero did.

Minnesota United needed a win over Western rivals Real Salt Lake to get their playoff push back on track after a slip-up over the last few weeks. Salt Lake have been in excellent form, winning four of their last six, while the Loons had just one win in their last four. Enter Quintero.

The Colombian was the hero of the hour for the Loons on Saturday evening as he scored twice to help turn the game around to give his side the win. RSL took an early lead through Albert Rusnak’s strike in the 17th minute, but just three minutes later, Quintero pulled Minnesota level with a wonderful goal, dribbling past Nick Rimando in the RSL goal before finishing.

The Colombian then bagged his second in the early stages of the second half to give the Loons the lead for the first time in the match, with Ethan Finlay rounding things off with an insurance goal inside the last ten minutes. Quintero is now into double figures for the season, as he notched his ninth and tenth goals for MNUFC, to go along with five assists. He has not been at his best for much of the year, but when Minnesota needed him most, he delivered.
