4. Nicolas Lodeiro

Not for the first time, the Seattle Sounders scored four goals this season. And also not for the first time, Nicolas Lodeiro was a key part of their victory. The Sounders came into Sunday’s game against the New York Red Bulls knowing a win would ultimately guarantee them a place in the playoffs come the end of the regular season. Lodeiro showed up.

Jordan Morris, the odds-on favourite for MLS Comeback Player of the Year, opened the scoring for Seattle in just the second minute of their clash with the Red Bulls. It was Lodeiro who then doubled the lead for the home side at CenturyLink Field, with his strike giving them a two-goal cushion halfway through the first period.

Seattle would eventually take the victory, thanks to an own goal from Sean Davis, before Lodeiro then put the finishing touches on the performance with this stoppage time strike. The Sounders move back into second spot in the Western Conference, with a six-point gap to the playoff line. One more win should seal their spot in the post-season, and with the Uruguayan midfielder playing so well, they could yet go on to win another MLS Cup.
