Seattle Sounders MLS Cup 2016: Where are they now?
By Matt Coles
AM – Erik Friberg – BK Häcken (Allsvenskan, SWE)
Swedish midfielder Erik Friberg played in the number 10 role for the Seattle Sounders in the 2016 MLS Cup final, in what was the final game of his second spell with the team. He played 30 times for the Rave Green over the course of the title-winning campaign, including playing five times during the postseason.
The Swede started his professional career with Vastra Frolunda IF back in 2005. He spent two seasons with the club before making the move to Swedish giants BK Hacken. Friberg then moved to Seattle for his first stint with the Sounders in the 2011 campaign, where he helped the side to lift the U.S. Open Cup.
The following season, after making the move Malmo FF, the midfielder made his international debut. He played twice for his country in 2012. In his second season with Malmo, Friberg helped the team to win the Allsvenskan and the Svenska Supercupen before making the move to Italy.
After playing just seven times for Bologna, Friberg signed for Esbjerg fB, before a second stint with the Seattle Sounders in MLS. During that spell in the States, Friberg was part of the side that won the 2016 MLS Cup. The final was his last game for the club before he made the move back to BK Hacken.
