LB – Joevin Jones – Seattle Sounders

Left-back Joevin Jones is now in his second spell with the Seattle Sounders. His first included the 2016 campaign, where he played 39 times, scoring twice and assisting six. Jones also scored in the shootout in the MLS Cup final.

The Trinidadian defender started his career in his home country, as he graduated from the youth team to the senior team at W Connection. He made 55 appearances, scoring 28 goals as a left-winger for the club, and whilst there, Jones also made his international bow for the Trinidad and Tobago national side. He has gone on to play over 60 times for his country, including appearances at two CONCACAF Gold Cups.

During his time at W Connection, he helped them to win the TT Pro League title twice, and the FA Trophy in 2013-2014, before being loaned out to HJK Helsinki in Finland. After a short spell in Europe, he crossed back over the Atlantic, signing for the Chicago Fire. He only played for the club for a year before making the move to Seattle.

In his two years with the Rave Green, he played over 75 times in a more defensive role, becoming the side’s starting left-back. He helped them to win the MLS Cup in 2016 before moving back to mainland Europe. In January 2017, the Trinidadian made the move to Darmstadt 98, who play in the second tier of German football. After a couple of years there, he signed for Seattle for a second spell and has become the side’s first-choice left-back once more.
