CB – Román Torres – Seattle Sounders

Panamanian centre-half Román Torres returned from injury halfway through the 2016 season to help Seattle to lift the MLS Cup, and he scored the winning penalty in the final.

His professional debut came in 2004, with Chepo, and he helped the side to win the Copa Rommel Fernández that year, before moving to Panama’s San Francisco, where he won both the Clausura and Apertura in the country’s top flight. Torres left his home nation in 2006, moving to Colombia. After a single season with Cortuluá, the centre-half, he made the move to La Equidad, where he helped the club to win the Copa Colombia in 2008.

The defender then spent time Atletico Junior and Atletico Nacional, lifting the Liga Postobon with the latter in 2011. He then won the same title with Millionairos a year later. After his spell in Colombia, Torres made the move to the States, signing for the Seattle Sounders midway through the 2015 MLS campaign.

Just four weeks after signing, the defender tore his ACL, putting him out of action for almost twelve months. On his return, he helped lead the team to glory in the MLS Cup. The defender, who was capped more than 100 times for his country, and led them to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2018, continues to play his football with the Sounders.
