There was a full programme of MLS action over the weekend, including top of the table clashes and match-ups between playoff-chasing sides. Here are the top five performances from Week 26.

The best game of Week 26 of the 2019 Major League Soccer season came in Seattle, as the Sounders and Galaxy played out a seven-goal thriller, with the hosts winning thanks to an 89th-minute strike to take it 4-3. The big shock of the slate came in the final game of the weekend as Minnesota United bounced back from their U.S. Open Cup final defeat in the week to take victory away at Banc of California Stadium, shutting out the normally rampant LAFC.

Elsewhere, the Philadelphia Union beat Atlanta United in the Eastern-topping clash, while D.C. United, FC Dallas, New York City FC and San Jose Earthquakes all scored three times to win their respective MLS clashes.

5. Ola Kamara

New D.C. United striker Ola Kamara has already made his mark on MLS at the start of his second stint in the league, and he bagged twice for the capital’s side against Montreal at the weekend. It was a big match in the hunt for the top-seven spots in the Eastern Conference as a win for Montreal would have taken them above United and into the playoff places. However, the visitors to Stade Saputo on Saturday night scored three goals in 12 first-half minutes to blow the Impact away, despite the hosts having nearly four times as many shots.

Kamara got his first after 20 minutes, giving D.C. the lead with his 50th MLS goal, coming across spells with three different clubs. After Paul Arriola doubled the lead for the visitors a couple of minutes later, Kamara then bagged his second of the game to give D.C. a three-goal lead. A deep corner was headed back across the box, with the striker diverting the ball into the goal.

Kamara has three goals in three starts for the capital’s side since his return from the Chinese Super League last month. D.C. will be hoping his good form continues throughout the final stretch and into the playoffs.
