New York City FC’s inaugural MLS squad: Where are they now?

CM – Andrew Jacobson – Retired
The first player in a two-man midfield was American Andrew Jacobson, who played 33 times for the Sky Blues over the course of their first season in the league. His career started at college, with the California Golden Bears, where he scored 11 times in 83 games, being named to the all Pac-10 team three times.
He was selected by D.C. United with the 24th overall pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, but chose to go abroad to start his professional career, signing for Lorient in Ligue 1. However, due to injuries, Jacobson did not play a game for the club, before moving back to the American capital in 2009.
He then spent a year with the Philadelphia Union before signing for FC Dallas ahead of the 2011 campaign. The midfielder became the club’s captain for the 2014 season, before being traded to New York City FC ahead of their inaugural campaign.
The American spent some time in Norway, with Stabæk, as NYCFC were not due to play competitive matches until 2015. He only spent a season with the Sky Blues before signing for Vancouver Whitecaps. In the early part of 2017, Jacobson announced his retirement from the game.
