Central defender Walker Zimmerman was another man that FC Dallas drafted straight out of college, and he became an integral part of their backline during his time with the club. Zimmerman spent his college career at Furman University, playing for the Paladins, where he earner the Southern College Freshman of the Year award in 2011. He was drafted by FCD with the seventh overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, making his professional debut later that season.

After a couple of seasons of being a rotation player, Zimmerman got his chance in the 2015 campaign, appearing 20 times, before he went on to play over 35 times in the 2016 campaign, helping FC Dallas to the U.S. Open Cup and the Supporters’ Shield that season. A year later, the centre-half was given his first USMNT cap. He has gone on to appear ten times for the national side, scoring twice. He also featured at the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup for the United States.

In 2018, Zimmerman signed for MLS’s new expansion side, Los Angeles FC. He has gone on to become one of their first-choice defenders, playing nearly 50 times for the club in the past 18 months.
