USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen played a crucial role in his club’s first Bundesliga match of the season. Here is an update of the USMNT players abroad.

The Bundesliga season got underway this weekend as the German top flight starts the long journey towards May. Among the many new faces in the league this season is United State Men’s National team goalkeeper Zack Steffen. The 23-year-old shot-stopper is on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf from Manchester City.

With Düsseldorf seeking to stay in the top flight for the second consecutive season, Steffen is expected to be called upon often during the course of the campaign. He got his first start on Saturday against Werder Bremen.

Bremen were the favorites to take the three points in the fixture but the visitors stole the show with a shock 3-1 victory. Among the players who stood out was Steffen who came up with some massive saves to keep Düsseldorf ahead. In total, he made eight saves as Bremen outshot their opponents 23 to 12.

This performance by Steffen should certainly cement his spot as the no.1 option in net for Düsseldorf who will face Bayer Leverkusen in a massive early-season test on Saturday.

Two other players with USMNT connections featured in this match as Steffen’s teammate, Alfredo Morales, played all 90 minutes, while Josh Sargent made a brief appearance off the bench for Bremen.

Pulisic and co. perform well in other fixtures

Christian Pulisic made his first career Premier League start on Sunday against Leicester City. Frank Lampard brought the young American player off the bench in last week’s loss to Manchester United and played him in the UEFA Supercup match midweek as well. This week he played 71 minutes against Leicester as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere in England, Matt Miazga played all 90 minutes for Reading in a 3-0 win over Cardiff City in EFL Championship action. Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson were also in action as they played the entire match for their respective clubs.

Weston McKennie started and played 85 minutes for Schalke in a scoreless draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Fabian Johnson was in action against his USMNT compatriot and entered in the second half to play 27 minutes for Mönchengladbach.

John Brooks of Wolfsburg is healthy and was in the lineup against FC Köln as his team would win 2-1 in their opening match of the Bundesliga season.

Timothy Weah made a brief appearance for his new club Lille in Ligue 1 action against Amiens.

Gall and Green score

Romain Gall had a big outing for Malmö this weekend as he would score one goal and register two assists in the Swedish top flight. The forward led the way for Malmö in their 5-0 win over Falkenburg.

Julian Green scored the game-winning goal for Greuther Furth in a 2. Bundesliga match against Regensburg.

In Argentina, Joel Soñora scored for Arsenal de Sarandi in a 3-0 win in Argentina’s top flight. Check out the goal below.
