MLS: Top 5 performances from Week 24
By Matt Coles
1. Valentin Castellanos & Heber
The best performance of the week comes from New York City FC’s potent duo, Valentin Castellanos and Heber, the two men causing defences problems in the Sky Blues’ attacking line. They overcame FC Cincinnati 4-1 on the road this weekend, but it was not without its problems, as the newbies took the lead on the half-hour mark.
However, that lead lasted for just a couple of minutes. With the orange smoke still hanging in the air from Cincy’s goal celebrations, the Argentine stroked home this curling effort, which also tallied Maxi Moralez’s league-leading 15th assist on the year.
His partner-in-crime, Heber, then got a second goal for the team just before the break, making it 2-1, and swinging the momentum in the visitors favour ahead of the second half. Both men then scored again in the second half to bag braces, with Castellanos coming out of the game as the slight man of the match favourite, thanks to assisting one of his strike partner’s goals.
With Castellanos and Heber now having over 20 goals between them on the season, it will take a good defensive performance to keep the Sky Blues out as we go down the final stretch.
