LB – Robbie Rogers – Retired

Another of the Maryland Terrapins side from 2005, Robbie Rogers was the starting left-back for the LA Galaxy the day they won the MLS Cup in 2014. He played 24 times for the Los Angeles side, including starting in all five of their playoff games on their run to the title that season.

Unlike his Terrapins teammates, Rogers spent just a year at college, moving to the Netherlands to play professional soccer, but he did not play a game for SC Heerenveen. He moved back to the States in 2007, joining the Columbus Crew. A year later, and the Crew won the MLS Cup, with Rogers playing over 30 times that season, and helping on a combined 11 goals.

During his time in Columbus, the American made his international bow. He played 18 times for his country over a three-year spell, scoring twice. After his five-year spell in Columbus ended, Rogers moved to England, signing for Leeds United. However, the versatile left-footer only played a handful of games for the club, resulting in a loan spell with Stevenage Town.

He briefly retired after his spell in England and came out as gay. When he then came back to soccer, signing for LA Galaxy in 2013, Rogers became the first openly gay male athlete in any of the big five American leagues.

He went on to play over 75 times for the Galaxy, helping them to win the 2014 MLS Cup, where he played in all five of their playoff matches, including the final. After missing the entire 2017 season through injury, Rogers decided to call it a day on his career for a second, and final, time.
