CB – Leonardo – Orange County SC (USL Championship)

Brazilian centre-half Leonardo was the other man in the middle of defence the day LA Galaxy wrapped up their fifth MLS crown. He played in 27 games during the Galaxy’s run to the title in 2014, including in three of their post-season matches.

José Leonardo Ribeiro da Silva was born and raised in São Paulo and came through the youth setup at his home town club. In 2010, he came to MLS on loan, signing his first contract with LA Galaxy. Despite an injury-hit 18 months with the club, Leonardo signed a permanent deal to move to Los Angeles for the 2012 campaign.

After being part of the team that won the MLS Cup in a year previous, Leonardo was also a part of the Galaxy squad that made it back-to-back titles in 2012. He then suffered from injury problems but came fighting back ahead of the 2014 campaign, where the Galaxy won their third MLS Cup in four seasons.

The defender played 27 times, scoring once, as the Galaxy lifted the trophy. After two more years with the club, Leonardo made the move to Houston and spent three years with the Dynamo. During his time in Texas, he helped the club to the playoffs for the first time since 2013, and to their first-ever U.S. Open Cup triumph. In the spring of 2019, Leonardo left the side, joining Orange County SC in the USL Championship.
