Substitutes

Brian Rowe – Orlando City SC (MLS)

The substitute goaleeper that day was Brian Rowe, another MLS stalwart, playing three games over the course of the season for the team.

His first taste of professional football came with Ventura County Fusion alongside playing for the UCLA Bruins during his time at college. In 2012, Rowe signed for the Galaxy as their back-up shot-stopper. He gradually got his chances, playing just seven times in his first three seasons with the club.

The American played three times for the LA Galaxy in their 2014 campaign and went on to become the starting keeper in the 2016 season, where he played 34 times as the club reached the post-season again. In 2018, Rowe made the move to the Vancouver Whitecaps, but spent just a season in Canada before moving to Orlando City, where he has become the first-choice goalkeeper.

Todd Dunivant – Retired

Five-time MLS Cup winner Todd Dunivant was on the bench for the Galaxy as they took their fifth MLS Cup in their history. He battled injuries throughout the 2014 campaign, playing just seven times over the course of the campaign.

The full-back played for the San Jose Earthquakes in his first taste of professional action, and helped the side to the MLS Cup in 2003, his first season in the league. After a second season in San Jose, the defender signed for the LA Galaxy, where he then won a second MLS Cup in 2005, as the Galaxy did the double, winning the U.S. Open Cup the same year. He then received his international debut a year later, but only played twice for the national side.

After short spells with the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC, Dunivant moved back to LA, joining the Galaxy for a second spell in 2009. He helped the team to three more MLS Cup triumphs, in 2011, 2012 and 2014, before retiring after the 2015 campaign. He is now the General Manager of Sacramento Republic.

Tommy Meyer – Unattached

Also on the bench that day was Tommy Meyer, who played 14 times for the LA Galaxy in their 2014 campaign, including twice in the post-season. The defender started his career with the Seattle Wolves, before being drafted by the Galaxy with the 19th overall pick of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft.

He played 41 times for the club across his four seasons, and won the MLS Cup in both 2012 and 2014, before signing for Swope Park Rangers ahead of the 2016 season. Meyer remains unattached after leaving the USL side after just a single campaign.

Dan Gargan – Retired

One of the substitutes to come on for the LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup final was Dan Gargan, who featured 34 times for the side during the 2014 campaign. The defender started his career with the Colorado Rapids after the club drafted him with the 43rd pick in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft.

After three seasons with the club, he then spent time with Chivas USA and Puerto Rico Islanders before moving north of the border, signing for Toronto FC. Gargan helped the side to glory in the Canadian Championship in both of his two years with the club. He then spent time in Chicago and San Jose before signing for the Galaxy.

Gargan featured regularly for the Los Angeles side in his two seasons, playing more than 50 times for the side before retiring at the end of the 2015 campaign.

Baggio Husidic – Retired

The second substitute used by LA in the final was Bosnian midfielder Baggio Husidic, who appeared in every regular-season game in the 2014 season.

He was taken with the 20th overall pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, and he played for the club for his first three seasons in the league. After a couple of seasons with Hammarby IF in the Swedish second division, before moving back to MLS with the LA Galaxy ahead of the 2014 season.

He was an integral part of the MLS Cup-winning side that year and went on to feature more than 100 times for the club over the course of his five seasons there. Husidic retired following the 2018 term.

Kenney Walker – Indy Eleven (USL Championship)

Midfielder Kenney Walker was on the bench for the Galaxy for the 2014 MLS Cup final, having featured a handful of times for the club over the course of the season.

His professional career started with Chicago Fire Premier, before being selected by the LA Galaxy with the 38th pick of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Walker remained on the Galaxy’s books for the next four seasons but spent time on loan at Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Carolina Railhawks and the Galaxy’s II team in that time. He left the club in 2016, signing for FC Cincinnati, but he did not make the transition into MLS with the new expansion side, instead signing for Indy Eleven ahead of the 2019 season.

Alan Gordon – Retired

Evergreen forward Alan Gordon was one of the substitutes used for the LA Galaxy in the 2014 MLS Cup final and he came on as a replacement in all five playoff matches.

The American was drafted by the LA Galaxy with the 53rd overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft and went on to play over 100 times for the club in his first stint with them, winning the MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup in 2005.

After spells with Chivas USA and Toronto FC, Gordon moved to San Jose midway through the 2011 campaign and played for the club for three years. The American made his international debut during his time in San Jose, playing twice for the USMNT in his career. He made the move back to the Galaxy in the summer of 2014.
