MLS stalwart Gyasi Zardes helped the Los Angeles side to beat New England Revolution in the 2014 MLS Cup final in what was his second season in the league. Zardes scored the opening goal in the final, his 17th of a campaign in which he played 37 times, including all 480 minutes of the playoff run.

His first taste of professional action came with Ventura County Fusion, with whom he played for whilst he was at college with the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners. The forward made the move to the Galaxy in 2013, and he spent the next five seasons with the Californian club. He helped the side to win the 2014 MLS Cup, the fifth in the club’s history, and he was rewarded a year later with his first international appearance.

Zardes has gone on to play over 50 times for his country, as was part of the USMNT side that lifted the CONCACAF Gold Cup trophy in 2017. The same year, after struggling from injuries, the forward moved from the Galaxy to the Columbus Crew, and went on to be awarded the MLS Comeback Player of the Year in 2018. Zardes bagged 20 times over the course of last season and remains a constant goal threat for both the Crew and the USMNT.
