2. Will Mauricio Pereyra feature?

Orlando City SC’s newest signing, Mauricio Pereyra, has not played a competitive match since May, when the Russian Premier League season finished up. For this reason, he was not involved in Orlando City SC’s recent games. He has trained with the team, but it is evident that James O’Connor has been true to his word by easing the Uruguayan into the starting XI.

Pereyra could be the missing link Orlando has been crying out for. His ability on the ball and the vision to seek out the best opportunities will prove vital on the counter-attack. His presence may also afford Nani the ability to return to doing what he does best, scoring goals.

Nani has not been able to make an impact in front of goal for over two months. In fact, he has only three shots on goal since that match against the Montreal Impact in June. For a club that is desperately in need of scoring more goals, Nani needs to be involved in and around the penalty box with more regularity.

Pereyra will give Orlando City a stronger presence in the middle of the pitch. The Lions have been reliant on the effectiveness in their wide play in the pursuit of goals. Unfortunately, opponents have clearly adjusted to this strategy, which has further stymied Orlando’s effectiveness on the counter. O’Connor needs players that can adapt with a greater effect during the match when one strategy is not working. As of right now, a truly creative attacking midfielder could dramatically increase Orlando’s option in all phases of play.

Pereyra is not known for scoring goals and his presence may not solve Orlando City SC’s lack of potency in finishing off opportunities. That being said, the Uruguayan can create better chances and will provide greater control and intensity in possession. He has the ability to pick out passes on the flanks or slot a nice through ball. Orlando have the attackers to cause problems and score goals, they just need a foundation to play from.
