ST – Dom Dwyer – Orlando City (MLS)

The final piece of the starting puzzle for Sporting KC was Dom Dwyer, who led the line for the side in the 2013 MLS Cup final, having featured in all five postseason games on SKC’s run to the title.

The forward started his youth career in his home country of England, with time spent at Norwich City, but he moved to the States to attend college. He was then drafted by Sporting Kansas City in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, with the team picking him at 16th overall. He only appeared once in his rookie year, but broke out in the 2013 campaign, as he helped the side to the MLS Cup.

Dwyer featured in 21 games, scoring three times, including a goal in the postseason, as Sporting KC took the title for the second time in their history. The English-born Dwyer became a more prominent part of the SKC set-up over the next three seasons, playing at least 30 times in the regular season in 2014, 2015 and 2016, with more silverware coming in the form of the USOC in the second of those three campaigns.

The summer of 2017 saw Dwyer traded to Orlando City in the most expensive deal between two MLS clubs in history, with more than $1.5million in allocated money going to Kansas City. Dwyer has gone on to play more than 60 times for the club, along with making his international debut for the USMNT, following his naturalisation. Dwyer was part of the squad that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017.
