Right Midfield

Cristian Techera

This may be the most controversial selection. Cristian Techera was one of the most divisive players in team history. He was incredibly inconsistent, a liability defensively more often than not, and hugely divisive among the fan base. However, when he was on, boy was he on.

His quickness was among the best in MLS, his passing exceptional and his finishing unmatched by anyone on the team throughout his time. Complementing all of that was a quick shot and a threatening strike from set-pieces. Of course, at just over five feet, he was never going to be a target man in the box, which allowed him to focus on his delivery. He scored six-plus goals in three of four seasons with the Whitecaps and was a key piece in the team when the side was finding success.

In the end, he was part of “La Banda”, the clique of south American players which divided the locker room, and a group that was cleared out by new head coach Marc Dos Santos, but his performances on the field, at times, were something to behold.
