Attacking Midfield

Yordy Reyna

Although inconsistent, Yordy Reyna has held the reigns of the Vancouver Whitecaps attack longer than any other. With his speed and control, he is able to cut through defences singlehandedly like a jitterbug.

Alongside his agility, his awareness for the attacking aspects of the game is at an elite level. He is one of the few Whitecaps on the current team who is able to drive the attack, something that he has done that throughout the majority of his Whitecaps career. As a bonus to all of his skill in open play, the Peruvian international is able to deliver high-quality balls from set-pieces, an asset that has proven invaluable throughout his time in Canada.

Unfortunately for Vancouver, it looks as though Reyna’s time at the Whitecaps is coming to a lacklustre conclusion. He has shown little interest in renewing his contract past 2020 and could leave in the near future. When we look back on his contributions, however, we see an attacking driver and a versatile player who can play in the midfield, on the wing and as a striker.
