At the weekend, the reigning MLS Cup Champions hosted the LA Galaxy with over 72,000 fans in attendance for the fourth time in MLS history. 72,548 fans were at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday night, the MLS venue with the nine highest regular-season attendances in history, all in the last 30 months.
The stadium also holds the record for the most fans in attendance of a post-season game, and any MLS game in general for that matter, as over 73,000 piled in to watch Atlanta lift the MLS Cup in December of last year.
This time around, the fans in attendance were treated to a stellar performance from the Five Stripes, with a Josef Martinez penalty rounding off a comfortable 3-0 victory thanks to the Galaxy gifting Atlanta two own goals in the first stanza. With consistently the highest crowd in the league turning up to their home games, could they push their beloved Atlanta United all the way through to another appearance in the MLS Cup final?
