This weekend saw the top teams get the results they needed, thanks to some superb individual displays. Here are the top five performances from Week 22.

The weekend started with Major League Soccer masters, Los Angeles FC, extending their lead at the top of the Western Conference to 12 points thanks to a comfortable victory over New England. Meanwhile, the Eastern leaders, the Philadelphia Union, emphatically displayed their superiority with a resounding win on the road in D.C.

The best game of the week came in Colorado, where the Rapids and the Impact shared nine goals. Two of our top five come from that game, along with one performance that did not even happen on the pitch!

5. Vito Mannone

Minnesota United’s 2019 campaign has been nothing short of phenomenal. They now sit in second in the Western Conference. The 2017 expansion side struggled for their first two seasons in the league, finishing outside the playoffs in both years, but this term, things are slightly different.

That could be because of the man in between the sticks, Vito Mannone. The shot-stopper joined the Loons on a season-long loan deal and has already broken Minnesota’s single-season record for shutouts, with time to spare.

This week, he was vital once again, his five saves helped notch up his eighth shutout of the season, and more importantly, gave the team a springboard to take a last-minute victory over Portland. A brilliant double save just before the half-hour mark showed exactly what the Italian has brought to the Loons’ net so far this campaign.
