4. Most goals allowed

Now on to a record no self-respecting team would want to own. The record for most goals allowed in a season is a very active mark that myriad teams seem to be chasing down. Minnesota United held the title in 2017 after they conceded 70 in their expansion season. The Loons, along with the San Jose Earthquakes, then made another attempt at the record in 2018, when both sides conceded 71. But not to be outdone, Orlando City let past a whopping 74 to take sole possession of this dubious honour.

Fear not Orlando fans. FC Cincinnati are here to save the day. Already having allowed 53 goals through 23 matches in their expansion season in MLS, Cincinnati’s opponents are averaging just over two goals a game against MLS’ newest side. All told, Cincinnati are on pace to concede 78 goals this season, smashing Orlando’s total.

It seems MLS expansion can go one of two ways: you’re either going to win MLS Cup; or find yourself in the basement with an unfortunate record fast approaching. For FC Cincinnati, it’s looking like the latter.
