CM – Amobi Okugo – Austin Bold (USL Championship)

One of the two central midfielders for Orlando’s first-ever match in MLS was new signing Amobi Okugo, who played 15 times for the Lions in their inaugural season. The American, who has played for the national side through the age groups all the way to the under-23s, started his professional career with the Philadelphia Union, drafted by them with the sixth overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.

During his five seasons in Philly, he amassed over 120 appearances for the club, playing mainly in central defence for the early part of his Union career, before moving into the holding role in midfield for the 2013 and 2014 campaigns.

He made the move to Orlando for the 2015 season. He played 15 games in the first half of the campaign before being traded to Sporting Kansas City. After a short stint in KC, Okugo moved to New York Red Bulls II, but only spent a couple of months there, before moving to the defending MLS Cup Champions for the back end of the 2016 campaign, the Portland Timbers.

After spending a full season with the Timbers, Okugo’s option was declined, and the American midfielder has since gone on to play for Sacramento Gold in the NPSL. He now features for USL Championship side Austin Bold.
