Coming into the weekend, the Crew knew they needed to get a move on if they were to reach the playoff places, while the Red Bulls were comfortably inside the top seven in the East. However, thanks to a double from the Portuguese midfielder, it was the visitors that came away with the victory on Saturday evening.
The hosts took the lead through Brian White, but Luis Argudo equalised within sixty seconds of the Crew going behind. Santos then gave the visitors the lead in the opening minute of the second half, before Daniel Royer then levelled the game once more.
The final goal from Santos was his second of the night, and it turned out to be the winner for the Crew, who took their first victory on the road since the opening day of the season, almost five months previous.
