Inter Miami: Following the MLS trend
By Daniel Garza
Inter Miami is getting closer to its first season and announced two South American signings. They are following the MLS trend as their inaugural squad is assembled.
The building of a roster is one of the hardest tasks for Major League Soccer expansion teams. All eyes continue to be on Inter Miami as they prepare to begin their first season in MLS in 2020.
David Beckham’s side is obviously hoping to get off to a strong start in the league, and on Friday, they announced two players who they believe will aid in their efforts.
At 19, both Matias Pellegrini and Julian Carranza will join Inter Miami from Argentine first division clubs. These two offensive players are promising stars for the future and will be key components to the success of Inter Miami in its early years.
Pellegrini is joining Inter Miami from Estudiantes de la Plata, where he has been a member of the first team this season and has three goals and one assist in 15 appearances. For the remainder of 2019, he will remain on loan at his current club.
Just like Pellegrini, Carranza will also be spending the rest of his season on loan. He will remain with Banfield through the remainder of 2019. The forward has played in 29 Superliga matches and has notched seven goals.
To no surprise, Inter Miami went with two attacking players as their first two signings. In a very attack-minded league, the front office signed two youthful players who have tremendous upside in their attacking abilities.

Both players will hope to be able to continue to develop at Miami and perhaps further advance to higher-tier leagues in the future — this is seemingly the natural development of MLS signings these days, buying youth South American talent, allowing them to play senior football, and then selling them to European teams after a couple of seasons.
Could these players be the next stars to follow in the footsteps of Miguel Almiron? There’s a good chance they will be.
With no other signings coming yet for Inter Miami, it would appear these two players will be foundational components for their first season. It’s still an unknown who the remaining players will be, but both Pellegrini and Carranza will likely be in the starting XI for Inter Miami’s first-ever MLS fixture.
This possibly won’t be the last time Inter Miami signs players from Argentina’s first division as the future of the club continues to grow. There’s a good chance they will go after a big-name star as well to usher in their first season in MLS.
