Portland Timbers’ MLS Cup 2015: Where are they now?

LB – Jorge Villafaña – Portland Timbers
The first of the men who still plays for the Timbers is left-back Jorge Villafaña, but the defender is now in his second spell with the club after leaving after the 2015 campaign. The 29-year-old played 39 games for Portland during their Championship year, scoring once and assisting five-time from the left-back position.
Villafaña started his professional career with now-defunct MLS side Chivas USA. The Californian spent seven seasons with the side before moving to the Timbers for the 2014 campaign. The full-back then spent the next two seasons in Portland, helping the team to win the MLS Cup in 2015, before he departed to Liga MX for a reported fee of just under $1 million.
Santos Laguna were the club that signed Villafaña, and he spent the next two and a half seasons with the Mexican side, winning the Liga MX Clausura, as they beat Toluca in the final. Internationally, he made his debut for the USMNT in January 2017, and has become the starting left-back for the national side, playing 21 times. Villafaña was part of the USA side that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2017.
In August 2018, the American moved back to Portland, where has been involved in a further 20 games since, providing a couple of assists in that time.
