It has been a great week for the New England Revolution as they took a maximum six points from their two matches in MLS this week, with Carles Gil tremendously influential throughout.

The first came on Wednesday night. They hosted the struggling Vancouver Whitecaps, and despite Maxime Crépeau’s best efforts (eight saves on the night), the Revs put four past the Canadian side. It took the Revs until first-half stoppage time to open the scoring, but thanks to a training ground corner kick, they eventually broke the deadlock.

Gil took the corner from the left side and sprayed the ball out to the edge of the area, where Gustavo Bou was waiting to volley home his first-ever MLS goal, and on his debut, no less. New England then scored three goals in the final ten minutes as Vancouver pressed for an equaliser, with Gil scoring a lovely curling effort to make it 3-0.

A fourth from Teal Bunbury wrapped their first victory of the week. On Sunday, the Revolution faced MLS-new boys, FC Cincinnati, and took their second win in the space of three days. Gil came to the fore once again in Cincinnati, scoring the opener after just nine minutes to set the Revs on their way. The Spaniard then set up the second, Antonio Delamea heading home from his cross to seal the victory. Gil now has seven goals and eight assists this season and has helped move the Revs up into the playoff places.
