4. Brian Fernandez

The Portland Timbers were another team who played twice this week coming away from their two fixtures with four points in the bag thanks to a draw with Orlando City in the week. and a victory over rivals Seattle Sounders in a Cascadia Cup fixture on Sunday evening.

They beat the Sounders 2-1, and it was new signing Brian Fernandez who stole the show, scoring both of the Timbers goals in the win. Fernandez scored the opener after 20 minutes after he was alert to a shot that rebounded hard off the Sounders crossbar.

That was his seventh in MLS having only signed at the end of the winter transfer window in May. Seattle equalised in the 50th minute through Raul Ruidiaz, fresh off the Copa America, but within a minute, Fernandez had struck again to reinstate Portland’s lead, his eighth of the MLS season. Portland held onto the lead, taking home the three points from Washington State.
